Data Points Analyzed
The Datasets
We collected original data on police shootings from police departments representing hundreds of large and mid-sized U.S. cities (i.e., cities with at least 100,000 residents as of 2010). We supplemented that collection with data from third party sources. Below you can download our data.
City-level data
This dataset contains information about each of the cities. Information includes details about the city and its responses to our open records requests.
Primary shooting data
This dataset contains information about the police shootings reported to us by police departments. Each record is an individual shooting.
Book replication data
This file contains everything to replicate all of the analyses in the book Deadly Force: Police Shootings in Urban America – all of the scripts, raw data, and other materials to reproduce every figure and table.
